Mom
Bio Details – from 2017
I am passionate about people. As a wife and mom and grandma (aka Gammie to 9 incredibly cool grandchildren), I am still madly in love with my husband and I find joy in serving my family and in having a voice of influence in the lives of those I love. I am very careful to remain a “cheerful consultant” for my 4 adult daughters and 4 SILs. I hope to continue to be a person they feel comfortable calling on for advice or just to be available to be a listening ear. My first priority passion (even trumping my love for family) is my faith, my love for Jesus and my unquenchable thirst for reading and studying the bible. Out of this passion, I carefully choose how to prioritize my time commitments. Currently I spend a good deal of time in a leadership role in a large women’s bible study in my community. I also serve on a board of directors for a really cool ministry called “Gogo Grandmothers” (I often write about this on our blog). This ministry has opened my eyes and heart to the joy filled people in Malawi, Africa. Their ability to find joy and peace amidst their difficult circumstances is humbling and helps me keep my perspective on the “hardships” I sometimes face.
I am on the go visiting the grandkids a few times each month and try to make sure I spend equal Gammie time with all of them. My best friend, (Poppa to the grands)tries to come on at least one of the road trips each month so that we can both stay actively involved in their lives. After all that busyness, I still manage to find some free time to share life with, encourage and mentor the incredible women that God has brought into my life. As I am studying the Book of Psalms this year, God is teaching me how to grow closer to Him through worship and obedience and servant leadership. These passions are right on target with the theme of our Gogo Grandmother’s ministry retreat, “You never know what’s on the other side of your obedience”. I am waiting expectantly to see how God will weave this theme throughout my life this year. I am hoping to be able to go on a “vision trip” to Malawi sometime in 2017. Another one of my passions and hobbies is fitness/nutrition. I love to do yoga, zumba, pilates and barre classes at the gym. My favorite forms of fitness are outdoor activities; hiking with friends, riding bikes and going skiing with my husband. The best thing my girls have taught me lately is how to gracefully manage healthy aging (I just turned 60!!). They all encourage me to daily pursue my health goals and they are my best examples of healthy eating and how to incorporate superfood nutrition into my daily regime.
My motivational quote for this year is “YOU CAN AND WILL MAKE A LASTING IMPACT”.
My goal is to stay committed to a life of obedience and servant leadership with a humble heart of lovingkindness and compassion. I want to live with no regrets, treating those I love with grace and forgiveness.

Married…I have been married to the love of my life for 35 years. We met in college and were married after my junior year and between my husband’s first two years of medical school. He was on a navy scholarship so in our first 15 years of marriage we moved around alot-living in 8 different cities/countries and a total of 12 different houses. I have had the privilege of being a Navy wife and wife of a very busy Pediatrician for these past 35 years. My husband loves Jesus and loves sports and we had fun through the years raising our four daughters, hosting small groups at our home and coaching our girls’ sports teams.
Graduated from/majored in/ previous work…I graduated from Stanford University in 1978 as a Human Biology major and continued my education at George Washington University Medical School where I received my Physician Assistant degree in 1980. At that point, I had been married for 3 years and we moved to San Diego where I worked as a PA until we moved to Guam in 1983. During the 80s we continued to move around and I had the privilege of being a full-time mom to my 4 beautiful daughters. In 1990 we moved to the East Bay Area of California. Since then I wrote a family heritage cookbook called “Baby Bear Stew-and the rest of the best”.
Life now…I started a tutoring business called “Quest for Success”, tutoring and mentoring High School students in Math and Science and continued being totally involved in women’s bible studies and all the activities that come along with raising 4 very active daughters. Now that they are all married and live far from our “empty nest”, I spend as much time as I can with my precious husband, but every chance I get when he is working overtime, I jump in my car and go visit one of the girls and the grandkids.
Kids…I am the mom of four amazing daughters with whom I have the privilege of writing the Growing Weisser Blog (see each of their “about me” posts) and 6 fantastic grandchildren. With these 6 grandkids coming from only 2 of the girls, we might have a plethora of grandkids before long.
Passion…I am honored to be a Christ follower and daughter of the King of Kings since 1971.I am a blessed wife to Rick and mom to four beautiful daughters, and Gammie to six fantastic grandchildren. I am passionate about mentoring younger women (including my four awesome daughters). Tutoring has helped me connect with high school students. I have always felt that job enabled me to do a unique ministry to speak into young lives. Over the years I have been a Bible study leader and teacher for women of all ages and have been involved in Women’s ministry leadership, planning many outreach events, retreats and service opportunities. I have a passion for cooking. I love using recipes I find, sometimes tweaking them to make them my own. But I also love creating new recipes from scratch. My girls call me at least once a week for recipe and food advice.
Favorite bible verse…“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart” Psalms 37:4 This was the verse on our wedding invitation. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, for the Lord your God goes with you where ever you go” Joshua 1:9
Favorite growing up memory…My favorite growing up memory was spending fun sunny weekends playing at the pool at Gram and Pop’s house with siblings and cousins and many friends-all were welcome and the freezer was always full of popsicles.
Favorite food….I love to cook and I love FOOD!!! I made it a family tradition to have homemade pizza every Friday night and all the girls knew that they could invite friends over, so we often had a crowd. I also love to make Mexican food and I like to try new recipes. When I was in high school, I started to make chocolate chip cookies for every bake sale and potluck-it was a secret family recipe that my Gram taught me. That same recipe has evolved into what is now known as the “Famous Weisser Cookies”. When Bethany and Bekah were on the APU softball team they became known as “Cougar Cookies” because we sold them or had them for after game treats at every game. As far as a few of my all time favorite things-I absolutely love Jazz apples, any kind of healthy salad, and I love cooking and eating healthy vegetarian recipes.
Hobbies…My hobbies are cooking and baking, sewing and all kinds of arts and crafts, reading, hiking, biking, pilates and yoga. I love Beth Moore bible studies and Kay Arthur Precept studies.
Coolest place you have ever visited….I lived in Florence Italy during my sophomore year of college and was able to travel all over Europe and see amazing beauty, history and culture. But the coolest place I have ever visited is the Great Wall of China. I was on a mission trip with my two youngest daughters in China and we spent one day touring and hiking along the Great Wall. It was an awe inspiring day.
Funniest moment….Many fun family moments have occurred over the years around our dinner table, hanging out, talking and playing games. One of the funniest of those was when our now son-in-law was just starting to get to know the family and we were playing Cranium. It was his turn and he had to create a lion with a piece of clay. Well it went from funny to funnier to funniest moment very quickly. His now wife was trying to guess what he was making and it went from her guessing turtle to worm to snake but never ever got close to lion. By the time his turn was up, everyone at the table was howling. My husband was laughing so hard he was crying.
My other funniest moment occurred at my wedding. I was a “goody two shoes” growing up and really never did rebellious things-but I started a wedding tradition on my wedding day that has carried on to all my daughters. No one thought I would ever accept the dare to smash cake in Rick’s face, especially my sweet new husband……….but I did it!!!!! All of our family and friends were SO surprised. My cute grandfather, Poppy, was taking pictures of the cake cutting ceremony and he was laughing so hard I am surprised he was able to get a series of great photos to document the momentous occasion.

Kerry, I am so blessed that God allowed our paths to cross many years back while you lived in San Diego.
I agree. We have shared so many life events and God has kept us connected through prayer and Facebook. Please pass on about our Blog to friends and family. We want to bless others and bring Glory to God!
Oh Kerry, I had to laugh “you were a “goody two shoes” growing up! Somehow I don’t think the apple has fallen far from the tree! I would imagine that the sweetness and gentleness you had growing up has been translated into your four daughters. I commend you and your husband on the job you have done, because I have dealt with too many kids that weren’t nurtured and loved. You have certainly had a full adventure. Love the website.
Your going to have to catch up on the grandkids. I have 11 step-grandkids. (I hope they’re done)!
Kerry,
Thanks so much for your research and recipe for the gluten free Almond Cookie. Also, thanks for the almond paste as I’m not sure we could find that on the grocery shelves here in Grenada. You’re the best!
Blessings,
Gwen and Kerk
